Bite Size Ice Cubes

Today was fun. I ran a seminar for Create Solutions of Lancaster University on ‘Dealing with Web Designers’ for students starting up their own businesses. After climbing three flights of stairs and peering into the various rooms marked ‘No Unauthorised Personnel’ (we were in the Physics building.)

We covered the whole process: from thinking about why your business needs a website to adapting or creating a brand for the web to picking your web designer. We also looked at some of the common pitfalls and had a bit of Q&A.

I rounded off by giving everyone a tech-spec template to fill in with room for sketches to help to focus their ideas and have an outline ready to present to a web designer. And yes, my logo was on all the sheets, but that’s neither here nor there…

By the way, if you’re a student at Lancaster Uni, you might well want to think about going down to Create and talking about any business ideas you might have; they’re super friendly and can get you funding (free money!) and give you free advice etc etc. They’re in Alex Square to the right of Gregg’s.
